Hard to believe that another year is hurtling to a close and that we are about to bottle our Christmas Ale. 2013 has been another great year for our beers and picking up a few more awards along the way. Our Stout had another good year and has sold out again, but will make a return for Anzac Day 2014. Our Spring Beer, 'Maibock' is in full swing and we are about to bottle up our Christmas Ale by mid November.
We have finally finished our front entrance which has tidied up the road side of the shed and our trellis is up just in time for the hops as they wind closer to the top of the poles every minute. They will look magnificent by mid January and should be harvested by March approximately. The Autumn ale we released for 2013 will be re-badged as a Brown Ale and our Autumn Ale for 2014 will be made using our own "home grown" hops. The style is still under heavy discussion but there is a chance we will be seeing a much more hop driven beer to complement our range of lovely malty beers that we already have.
If you get a chance to stop by, take it!
Champion South Australian Brewery
Again earlier this year in July, we picked up a Champion Trophy for our Wheat Beer, along with Gold, Silver and Bronze for our other beers.
The results of the 2012 Royal Adelaide Beer Awards were announced on 6th July, 2012 and we are thrilled to share with you that we won four Champion Trophies. Our Wheat Beer won Champion Wheat Beer, and not only did it score the highest points in its category it also scored the highest points out of every beer that was judge in the event, thus winning itself Champion Exhibit. Our total points for all our entries were tallied and we came out with Champion Small Brewery and Champion South Australian Brewery. An article that appeared in the Adelaide Advertiser the morning after read:
"A battle royal between South Australia's brewing flagship Coopers and a tiny regional operation dominated this year's Royal Adelaide Beer Awards. McLaren Vale based micro brewery Goodieson, run by husband and wife team Jeff and Mary Goodieson pipped big gun Cooopers by taking out four trophies to three in the annual competition announced last night. It won the top trophy for its category, winning Goodieson Wheat Beer, and was named Champion SA Brewery and Small Brewer. Champion large brewer Coopers won gongs for its Mild Ale and premium lager."
We are so thrilled to receive recognition for our hard work. It has been many years of hard work and dedication to our goal of making some of the best beer in the country, we hope you will get the opportunity to sample some of our wares!
