Our family owned brewery has a simple plan for brewing great beer:
Brewed amongst the vines of McLaren Vale, South Australia, our beers are given all the attention and time they deserve.
Our last update was August 2010 and a lot has happened since then. We finally got approval for our cellar door which opened in October 2010. It's still very rustic and raw, but hey there's not many microbreweries that actually let you wander amongst the brewing vessels, smell the smells created during the brewing process and talk to the actual brewer, Jeff Goodieson. There is not much he doesn't know about brewing and what goes on between barley and beer!
Our Wheat Beer was launched in November 2010 and we believe it is everything you might expect in a true to style Wheat Beer, a lovely hazy beer with banana/clove aromas and flavours and a gorgeous silky mouth feel. Truly a beer to be relished and just in time for summer.
Christmas and the summer holidays were upon us before we knew it and not only at the same time did production hit full capacity we also built our outside area and toilets (well the toilets are still a work in progress, but they are in working order, still not painted and prettied up yet). Check out the updated photos tab to see the works in progress. We are still crazy enough to do all our own building work, but hey who else are we going to get to do the job at short notice over the Christmas/New Year period, and, sleep is over rated.
We believed our outside area was going to be a fantastic place to sit and enjoy a cold beer, but we really did under estimate the serenity of our views and aspect. The outdoor area is being enjoyed by many and currently as we don't do food of any description we welcome anyone who wants to bring a picnic or afternoon snacks to come along and enjoy a beer with them.
We hurtled through the brewery's first birthday back in January this year and although we did enjoy the moment we were in the thick of Tour Down Under weekend in McLaren Vale and there wasn't much time to reflect on the previous year, it just seemed to continue in the same blur. It did feel good to get that first year behind us and what is even more exciting is that Jeff is now working in our brewery full time after leaving Lion Nathan.
April is upon us and now we look to the rest of 2011. Our Stout is definitely on the agenda and at this stage it will be in bottle by mid June, we can't hurry the brewer. We have taken possession of another 1,000 ltr fermentation tank and hopefully by mid year we will have another 4,000 ltrs additional capacity up and running. Life definitely hasn't slowed down, but it's definitely moving in the right direction.
Thanks again for visiting the Goodieson Brewery website and if you get a chance to grab a Goodieson's Pale Ale, Pilsner or Wheat Beer, you'll be doing yourself a favour. See you soon!.
